Retrieval and distribution of patent literature
Effective patent searching requires more than knowing search terms—it requires understanding how patent information databases are structured and how their content differs. This course introduces the main databases used by patent information specialists and explains how database characteristics influence search strategies and search results. Participants learn how patent and non-patent literature databases vary in coverage, subject focus, time span, and indexing practices, and how these differences affect information retrieval.
Special attention is given to the structure and coverage of patent family databases and to practical work with major professional platforms such as Orbit and PatBase. By gaining insight into database architecture and data sources, participants develop the foundation needed to interpret results correctly and to design effective patent searches
